Akron RubberDucks News Release
AKRON -- The Akron Aeros (18-14) entered Thursday nights game against the Erie SeaWolves (17-13) a perfect 17-0 when holding a lead after seven innings. However, Erie plated four runs in the eighth, only one of which was earned, to steal a series opening win from Akron, 5-4.
Aeros starter, Aaron Laffey (4-1), had another tremendous outing through seven innings as he gave up only one run on five hits. On the night he struck out seven batters and did not walk a batter. However, in the eighth the defense committed a big error behind him leading to three unearned runs, giving him his first loss of the year.
At the plate, Akron collected nine hits, including two doubles. However, the Aeros went 2-11 with runners in scoring position and other than two-out RBI doubles by Brian Barton and Wyatt Toregas, the offense could not get things going late in the game.
Akron will continue the weekend series with Erie on Friday, May 11at 7:05 p.m. at Canal Park. Friday is Fireworks night presented by Corona at the stadium. Tickets are available at the Akron Aeros Box Office for all the weekend action or by calling 1-800-97-AEROS.
