Thunder Dominates In First Win Of Season

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder defeated the Tulsa Oilers 5-1 at the Kansas Coliseum on Friday night.

Jason Duda put the Thunder on top just 2:48 into the game, deflecting Jim Jorgensen's shot from the point beyond the left of goaltender Kevin Armstrong. At 10:19, Marc Belanger sniped a power play goal over Armstrong's right shoulder to make it 2-0.

At 6:07 in the second, Wichita made it 3-0 on a perfect backdoor pass from Damian Surma that was punched in by Troy Ofukany. Quick passing led to Jim Jorgensen's power play goal at 12:13 in the second to give the Thunder a four-goal advantage. Mike Batovanja crashed the net and cleaned up a rebound from Ofukany for a shorthanded goal at 17:11 to make it 5-0.

The Oilers scratched out their lone tally on a shorthanded goal from former Oklahoma City Blazer Marty Standish at 7:04 in the third period.

With a goal and an assist, Jason Duda now has 876 career points and surpasses Doug Lawrence for third place all-time in CHL history.

Rookie goaltender Scott Campbell saved 25 of 26 to earn his first professional win. Wichita was outshot 26-22. The Thunder went 2 for 7 on the power play while going a perfect 5 for 5 shorthanded.

Jorgensen and Belanger each finished with a goal and two assists. Duda and Ofukany also had multi-point games.

Wichita next plays on Saturday night when they head to the BOK center for another match against the Oilers.
