Shootout Brings Win For RiverKings

(Southaven, MS) --- Three shootout goals brought the Mississippi RiverKings their second win of the season on Friday, October 23rd in Southaven, a 3-2 victory over the Texas Brahmas. The weekend series will continue tomorrow night, but this time on Texas ice at 7:05 PM.

The RiverKings opened the scoring when Kevin Jarman netted his third goal of the season, assisted by David Simoes and Louis Dumont at 2:21 of the first period for a 1-0 lead. However, Texas answered when A.J. Gale scored his second goal of the year at 14:14 for a 1-1 at the first intermission.

After a scoreless second period, the RiverKings opened the third period quickly when Cam Severson scored his second goal of the year at 43 seconds of the final frame, assisted by Stephen Margeson and Louis Dumont. Again, Texas answered later in the period when Grant Jacobsen notched his third tally of the year at 10:33, a goal that would set up overtime and the shootout.

Mississippi won the shootout 3-1 with goals from Ryan Campbell, Dumont, and Derek Landmesser. Texas' only shootout goal came from Jason Reese in the fourth round.

Ray Jean was the winning goaltender for the RiverKings (2-1-0) with a 30-save performance, while Ross Palmer took the shootout loss (0-0-1) with a 33 saves.

Neither team scored on the power play, as the RiverKings were 0-for-6 and Texas went 0-for-5.

The RiverKings evened their season record to 2-2-0 with the win, while Texas fell to 1-1-1 with the loss.

The next home game for the RiverKings will come Sunday afternoon when they face the Wichita Thunder for the second time this season. Game time Sunday will be at 3:05 PM.
