Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (October 23)-It took four rounds in a shootout for the Brahmas and RiverKings to wrap up the game, but it was the Brahmas who came out with their first shootout loss of the season, 3-2, but earning a point in the standings Friday on the road.
It was rookie goaltender, Joe Palmer's first action between the pipes for Texas (1-2-1) as he and the Brahmas faced the Mississippi RiverKings for the third game of the 2009-10 season. Palmer was tested early when RiverKings forward Kevin Jarman notched his third goal of the season two minutes following opening faceoff. Texas' own A.J. Gale retaliated beating Ray Jean on his backhand for the 1-1 tie.
The second period was a silent one for goal scorers but not due to a lack of testing the netminders as Texas had nine shots on goal and Mississippi with 14. The RiverKings regained their lead when just :43 seconds in the final frame Cam Severson beat Palmer for the 2-1 lead. As the home crowd at the DeSoto Civic Center cheered for their team, the visiting Brahmas rallied back when newcomer Jason Reese was tripped up in front of Jean's net on a breakaway and Grant Jacobsen was able to pound the puck into the back of the net on the delayed penalty call. The intense 60 minutes proved to not be enough leading the Brahmas and 'Kings to the extra period, the second for the Brahmas this season.
A decision could not be made with the 4-on-4 overtime leading to the five player shootout, the first for both teams this year. Mississippi had three scorers in the shootout (Ryan Campbell, Louis Dumont and Derek Landmesser) and Reese had the lone tally for the Brahmas.
Both teams will turnaround from Mississippi for the Brahmas home opener and championship banner ceremony tomorrow night. Game time is set for 7:05 PM.
