Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - Ken Carroll made 38 saves in his first start of the season, but the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs fell just short in a 2-1 loss to the Allen Americans Friday night at the CenturyTel Center. Nathan O'Nabigon scored the game-winning goal with under six minutes remaining in the third period as Allen moved to 3-0 on the season, while the 'Bugs dropped to 1-2-0.
Joe Blaznek scored his first goal of the season in the game, which saw a total of 16 powerplays between the two clubs. All three goals in the contest were scored on the man-advantage.
The teams played a spirited opening period that ended scoreless. Allen outshot Bossier-Shreveport 18-12, but Ken Carroll made a number of tough saves to keep the Americans off the scoreboard. Both clubs had two powerplay chances in the period, and new Mudbugs defenseman Tysen Dowzak also dropped the gloves with Allen's Liam Huculak in the game's only fight.
The 'Bugs took the lead just 14 seconds into the second period when Joe Blaznek broke in down the left side boards and ripped a shot off the post and into the net past Charlie Effinger to make it 1-0 Bossier-Shreveport. Allen tied the game later in the period when Jordie Benn beat Ken Carroll during a 5-on-3 powerplay to knot the game at one.
The teams traded powerplays in the third, but it was Allen who would finally capitalize to take the lead. O'Nabigon broke into the Mudbugs zone and was stopped by Carroll on his initial shot, but scored on his own rebound to put the Americans on top 2-1. Bossier-Shreveport generated numerous chances late in the game with a powerplay opportunity and the goaltender pulled, but couldn't beat Effinger to get the equalizer.
Carroll is now 0-1 this season despite a great effort, while Effinger was solid himself with 34 saves in moving to 3-0. Allen outshot the Mudbugs 40-35 and was 2 for 8 on the powerplay. The Mudbugs finished 1 for 8 on the man-advantage.
The Mudbugs will now hit the road again to take on the Odessa Jackalopes tomorrow night at 7:05 pm at the Ector County Coliseum. Tune in to live play-by-play coverage of the contest on News Radio 710 AM KEEL or watch it live online on CHL TV.
