
Bucks Stung By Ice Rays 4-2

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Corpus Christi Ice Rays 4-2 Friday night at the American Bank Center. Laredo falls to 2-1 (4pts), while the Ice Rays pick up their first win of the campaign (1-1-1, 3pts).
Jeff Alcombrack picked up two points (1-12) to lead Corpus, while Kris Tebbs set aside 31 of 33 in net.
The Ice Rays jumped out in front of the Bucks just 59 seconds into the game when Jeff Alcombrack hammered a slap shot home from the point on the power-play. The strike was Alcombrack's first of the year.
The Bucks would tie the game at 1-1 on the power-play just three minutes later at the 3:58 mark of the first. Captain Adam Rivet scored from the high slot off of a drop pass from Jeff Bes. Rivet scored his second of the year, with Bes (5) and Lance Monych (3) picking up the assists.
Corpus would re-take the lead at 2-1 when struck again on the power-play at the 13:05 mark. Ryan Bennett poked in a rebound at the left-side of the crease to pick up his first tally of the year.
The Bucks outshot the Ice Rays 13-10 in the first period.
There was plenty of fireworks in the first period as each team picked up 18 penalty minutes, including two fighting majors apiece.
The second period had no scoring as neither team could light the lamp, giving the Ice Rays a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.
The Bucks were outshot in the second period by a 13-2 margin.
Copus would extend the lead to 3-1 at the 14:49 mark of the third when R.G Flath sent a backhander in off a loose puck in the crease. It was Flath's first game with Corpus.
Laredo would cut the lead to 3-2 with 1:49 left in the third when Robin Richards banged in a loose puck in front of the Ice Rays net.
Steven Later would score an empty-netter from the length of the ice with eight seconds left to make it 4-2 Ice Rays.
Kyle Gajewski suffered the loss in net for Laredo as he set aside 36 of 39 Ice Rays shots in net. The Bucks were outshot 40-33 in the game.
Laredo struggled on special teams in the loss, going one-for-eight on the power-play, while allowing two power-play strikes by the Ice Rays.
**BUCKS HOME OPENER SATURDAY**
*The Bucks will host their 2009-10 home opener Saturday (Oct 24th) when they host the Allen Americans at the LEC. Saturday also marks the return of tailgating to Bucks games, with the first tailgate cook off starting at 4pm outside the LEC.***
The entire Bucks team will be outfitted in Tuxedos, brought to you buy International Tuxedo, and will enter the LEC at 5pm on a special Red Carpet outside the main entrance. Fans and media are encouraged to arrive early to take pictures and welcome the new Bucks team.
The first tailgate is a Fajita cookoff, with three celebrity judges deciding on the winner. The celebrity Judges are Tim Gutierrez (KGNS Anchor), Chuy Cortez (Imagen 94.1) and J.J Vela (Laredo Heat G.M). The winner will be announced at 6pm.
Fans are encouraged to bring their own grills and cooking equipment.
From 4-6:30pm the LEC will be selling $1 dollar beer outside at the tailgate party, then inside during the game beer will be $2.
Pre-game festivities inside the LEC consist of pyro, the introduction of the entire 2009-10 Laredo Bucks team, and the special ceremonial puck drop.
