
Thunder Dominate Pair of Division Leaders

THUNDER (ALMOST) SHUTOUT EAGLES- Goaltender Nathan Grobins made 43 saves, and came within just nine seconds of a shutout, as the Thunder beat the high-powered Eagles, 3-1 in Colorado on Friday. Adam Calder and Travis Clayton scored power play goals for Wichita, while Chris Low added an empty-netter versus his former team. Brad Patterson's late third period goal ruined the shutout.
THUNDER (FINALLY) SHUTOUT RIVERKINGS- The Thunder exploded for four first period goals and the defense played their best game of the season, helping Nathan Grobins record a 5-0 shutout of Memphis on Saturday. Adam Calder led the Thunder with two goals and an assist, while Darryl Green, Mark Kolesar and Les Hrapchak also chipped in goals. Hrapchak's tally was the first of his pro career. The Thunder held the RiverKings to just 18 shots on goal, as Grobins recorded Wichita's first shutout since March 8, 2001.
THUNDER COLLECTING, DISTRIBUTING TEDDY BEARS- For the fourth straight year, the Wichita Thunder players will deliver Teddy Bears to burn victims at Wesley Hospital this Thursday beginning at 1:30 p.m. On Saturday, the Thunder ask all fans to bring Teddy Bears to the game for the second annual Commercial Federal Teddy Bear Toss. When the Thunder score their first goal of the game, fans can litter the ice with Teddy Bears. The Bears will be donated to the Wichita Children's Home and the Via Christi Burn Unit. The Thunder want to beat last year's total of 574 Teddy Bears!
MILESTONES- Travis Clayton tied Jason Duda for the most goals in Thunder history on Friday, with 195...Clayton is now the Thunder franchise leader in goals, assists, points, games played, PP goals, SH goals, GW goals and SO goals...Duda returned to the lineup this weekend and played in his 400th career Thunder game...Jeff Leiter is two games shy of 200 for his Thunder career...Goaltender Nathan Grobins is one victory shy of 100 for his pro career.
THUNDERBOLTS- Wichita is still second in the CHL, allowing just 28.7 shots per game...The Thunder are third in the CHL with 37 major penalties...Injured rookie Ryan Olynyk is still second in the CHL with 13 majors...Olynyk is expected back in the lineup tomorrow...Veterans Mark Kolesar and Adam Calder are tied for second in the CHL with six PP goals...Travis Clayton is second in the CHL with four GW goals...Tickets are buy one get one free on Wednesday with a Dillon's receipt showing proof of purchase of a Sterling Silver meat product...Friday is Adopt-A-Dog Show Night sponsored by PETCO and the Kansas Humane Society.
