Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BUGS BEAT FOREST, AUSTIN IN SHOOTOUT â Goaltender Jeff Blair made 37 saves in his Mudbugs debut and Craig Minard scored a game-winning shootout goal as the Mudbugs defeated the Austin Ice Bats 2-1 on Thursday night. Derek Stone started the scoring for Austin in the first period by beating Jeff Blair, who was acquired in a trade with Odessa two weeks ago. Both teams battled back and forth until Chad Spurr beat Ice Bats goaltender Jonathan Forest in the third period with a power play strike to tie the game at one. After a scoreless overtime, Blair shined in the shootout as he made four saves in five rounds. The Mudbugs got shootout goals from Chad Spurr and Craig Minard, who was credited with the game-winning tally. Blair ended the night with 37 saves to earn his first victory in a Mudbugs uniform.
WILDFONG STICKS IT TO ODESSA â On Friday, Dan Wildfong scored twice and goaltender Jeff Blair made 35 saves in his second straight start as the Mudbugs defeated the Odessa Jackalopes at the Ector County Coliseum. Odessa's Wayne Hall got the game's first goal with a backhander past Blair at 5:13 of the first period. After the Mudbugs killed a five-on-three Jackalopes advantage, Wildfong beat Jackalopes netminder Joel Martin on a breakaway for his fifth of the year to tie the game at one. After the Mudbugs dominated the play in the second period with a 20-10 shots advantage, Dan Wildfong scored his second goal of the game when Odessa was whistled in the third period for having too many men on the ice and Chris Brassard finished the night with an empty-netter for a 3-1 win. Martin made 45 saves as the Mudbugs fired a season-high 48 shots toward the Jackalopes netminder.
GUTSY PERFORMANCE VS. BLAZERS â On Saturday night, the Mudbugs earned their sixth straight victory with a 3-2 shootout win over the Oklahoma City Blazers at the Ford Center. After a scoreless first period, Chad Spurr continued his impressive play by scoring his 11th goal of the year. However, Tyler Fleck answered just minutes later for Oklahoma City and Marty Standish gave the Blazers a 2-1 third period lead. Despite being short on defensemen, the Mudbugs would continue to battle and got the equalizer from David Oliver as he redirected a Jason Campbell pass past Connors for his sixth goal of the year. After a scoreless OT, the Mudbugs went into their second shootout in three nights and Jason Basile notched the game-winner in the sixth round to put the team in first place in the Northeast Division with 32 points and a .696 winning percentage.
