Tulsa Oilers News Release
The Tulsa Oilers split a pair of games on home ice last weekend, and are currently tied for third place in the Northwest Division with a record of 10-8-5, 25 points. The Oilers are tied with New Mexico in third, and trail second-place Oklahoma City by 4 points with three games in-hand.
The Oilers opened their weekend with a home contest against the first-place Memphis RiverKings on Friday night. Jason Bermingham scored 4 goals in the game, and Todd Marcellus and Wes Scanzano each tallied two assists as Tulsa upended the defending CHL champions by a score of 5-3. Rod Branch made 31 saves to get his 9th win of the season, and Marian Koleda scored his second goal of the season, both game-winners against Memphis.
Saturday night, the Oilers welcomed another first-place team, the Amarillo Gorillas, to the Convention Center. Tulsa's offense just could not get it going, and only managed one goal in a 5-1 defeat on Teddy Bear Toss Night. Wes Scanzano had the only goal, on the power-play, set up by Todd Marcellus and Regan Harper. Tim Kelleher stopped 20, but took the loss between the pipes.
Jason Bermingham has racked up 18 points in his last 10 games, and is tied with Todd Marcellus for the team-lead with 29 points. Bermingham leads the team with 16 goals and a +15 rating, while Marcellus has a team-high 16 assists and a +14. Anthony D'Arpino and Regan Harper have led the way on the Oilers' blueline this year, scoring 11 points each. Harper had 6 points and a +5 in his last 10 games, while D'Arpino is a +5 with 5 points in his last 5 games.
In goal, the Oilers have been solid with the play of Rod Branch and rookie Tim Kelleher. Branch was undefeated on home ice up until recently, and has a 9-3-3 record in 16 games, with a 2.75 goals-against-average and a .927 save percentage. Kelleher, meanwhile, is only 1-5-2 in 8 games played, but he's sported an .883 save percentage and a 3.24 goals-against-average.
