Colorado Eagles News Release
Windsor, CO â The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League (CHL) are 16-8-2 on the 2003-04 season. The Eagles take on the San Angelo Saints Wednesday, December 17; face-off is set for 7:05 p.m. at the Budweiser Events Center. The Eagles with then travel to Wichita to face off with the Thunder Saturday, December 19; the puck will drop at 6:05 p.m. (MST). The next day the Eagles skate against the Tulsa Oilers, Saturday, December 20 at 6:35 p.m. (MST). December 9 â Colorado Eagles @ San Angelo Saints EAGLES 3-2
The first period remained scoreless until 13:36 into the period when San Angelo's right winger Steve Roberts netted the first goal of the game on a power play from defensemen Corri Moffat and Matt Frick. The Eagles answered the Saints goal only one minute thirty six seconds later (15:12) when center Nelson scored from right winger Pankewicz and left winger Tobler. The period ended at an even 1-1.
The Eagles did not wait long to score in the second period. Left winger Zirnis netted a goal 4:56 into period from defenseman Williamson and forward Bohac. Colorado struck again 9:29 into the period when left winger Tobler scored from center Nelson and defenseman Williamson. Tobler not only netted the game winner, but his goal also earned him his forty third point in the season, placing him as the league's point leader along with teammate Pankewicz. The period with a 3-1 Eagles lead.
The Saints took advantage of another power play at the beginning of the third period. San Angelo's forward Chris Minard struck 3:25 into the period from center Ryan Finnerty and defenseman Derek Booth, making it a one goal game. Neither team scored again. The Eagles were victorious for the second time in as many games, 3-2.
Eagles goaltender Ryan Bach saved 31 of 33 shots on goal. The Saints out shot the Eagles 33 to 26.
December 12 â Colorado Eagles vs Wichita Thunder THUNDER 3-1
Although the first period of play was slow, the Eagles managed to out shoot the Thunder by 10 shots (18 to 8). The period ended even at, 0-0. The second period of play was similar to the first, slow, until Thunder struck with only one minute thirty eight second remaining (18:22) when Wichita's left winger Adam Calder scored on a power play from center Travis Clayton and right winger Trevor Allman. The Eagles out shot the Thunder again in the second 14 to 10, but couldn't get the puck past Wichita netminder Nathan Grobins. The period ended with a 1-0 Thunder lead.
The Thunder took advantage of another power play eight minutes fifty four seconds into the third period when center Clayton netted a goal from defenseman Darryl Green and forward Mark Kolesar. With one minute and forty eight seconds remaining in the game Wichita left winger scored unassisted on an empty Eagles net, earning a 3-0 Thunder lead. With only nine second left in the game (19:51) Eagles center Brad Patterson netted a goal from forward Daniel Bohac and defenseman Brad Williamson, saving the Eagles from a shut out loss. Ther period ended with a scrum, two misconducts, and a 3-1 Wichita victory. The Thunder's netminder, Nathan Grobins, had an incredible game saving 43 of 44 Eagles shots on goals.
Eagles goaltender Ryan Bach saved 21 of 23 shots on goal. The Eagles out shot the Thunder 44 to 23.
December 13 â Colorado Eagles vs New Mexico Scorpions SCORPIONS 2-1 SHOOTOUT
The Eagles were the first to strike in the franchise's first ever televised game. Five minutes forty three seconds into the period Eagles right winger Pankewicz netted a pass from defenseman Cook. Pankewicz had the only goal in the period, the Eagles out shot the Scorpions 11 to 7. The period ended with a 1-0 Eagles lead.
The second period of play remained scoreless until Scorpions center Oliveira struck on a power play with four minutes nineteen seconds remaining in the period (15:41) from left winger Barker and defenseman Adams. Although the Eagles out shot the Scorpions again in the second period, 11 to 9, they could not get a shot past New Mexico's netminder Lorenz. The period ended even at 1-1.
The Eagles dominated in shots again in the third period, 11 to 8, but again, Colorado could not get a single shot past Scorpions goaltender Lorenz. New Mexico was not able to get a shot past Eagles netminder Bach, ending the perioed tied at 1-1, forcing the game into overtime.
In overtime the Eagles had six shots on goal; the Scorpions had none. New Mexico netminder Lorenz saved all six Eagle shots, forcing a shootout. In the shootout Scorpions center Oliveira netted the game winning goal, New Mexico was vicorious 2-1.
Eagles goaltender Ryan Bach saved 23 of 24 shots on goal. The Eagles out shot the Scorpions 38 to 24.
COACH'S SHOW
The Coach's show will air tonight on 1410 the Zone live from Bennigan's at 5 p.m. Eagles play-by-play personality Tori Holt and Head Coach Chris Stewart discuss the team's last 3 games. A couple players will be at Bennigan's tonight to add commentary to the show and to meet fans. If fans cannot make it they are encourage to call in with questions. A pair of tickets to Wednesday's game against the San Angelo Saints will be given away at the show.

Notes: The Colorado Eagles have faced the Thunder three times this season; November 5 at the Budweiser Events Center the Eagles defeated Wichita in a shoot out, 6-5; November 8 in Wichita the Eagles were victorious against the Thunder, 4-3; December 12 at the Budweiser Events Center the Eagles lost to the Thunder, 3-1. UPCOMING COMMUNITY EVENTS:
12/28 SUBWAY APPEARANCE â Ryan Tobler, Riley Nelson, Karlis Zirnis, and Fraser Filipic will be at the Subway in Windsor, next to Safeway, at noon to sign autographs and meet fans.
12/31 NEW YEARS EVE BASH â Immediately following the game against Wichita, season ticket holders are invited to the First National Bank Exhibition Hall (across from the area) for a New Year Eve Party, players will be in attendance.
1/6-1/7 LADIES NIGHT â The Colorado Eagles will be hosting the second ladies night of the season. Hockey 101 will be held Tuesday evening at American Eagle Distributing, starting at 6 p.m. Everyone will then apply what they have learned in Hockey 101 at the game the next night against the Lubbock Cotton Kings.
