Wichita, KS- Wichita attempted to climb out of a three-goal deficit against Tulsa on Wednesday night, but couldn't complete the comeback in a 4-3 loss at INTRUST Bank Arena.
Alexis Loiseau and Gabriel Gagne each finished with a goal and an assist in the losing effort.
Tulsa raced out to a 3-0 cushion, getting goals from Shawn Bates, Darik Angeli and Christophe Lalancette in the first. Angeli and Lalancette each had three points on the night to pace the Oilers attack.
Gagne gave the Thunder some life, scoring a power play goal at 13:58 of the second that cut the lead to 3-1. He found a rebound off a shot from Landon Oslanski and fired it home past Jamie Phillips.
The Oilers scored quickly at the start of the third to re-gain their three-goal advantage. Angeli tipped in a point-shot from Wes Cunningham at 24 seconds to make it 4-1. Loiseau cut the lead to two with a power play tally at 16:30 with assists to Nick Trecapelli and Gagne. Just over a minute later, Blake Tatchell scored a highlight reel goal to make it a 4-3 contest. Scott Greenham was pulled with less than a minute to go, but the Oilers escaped with the victory.
Loiseau added his team-leading 11th tally of the season and is just four goals shy of last year's totals. Gagne had his second two-point outing of the year, recording a goal and an assist. Greenham suffers the loss, stopping 35 of 39 shots. Phillips claims his 12th victory of the season, stopping 27 of 30 shots he faced.
