
Monarchs Announce Multiple Player Transactions

MANCHESTER, N.H. - Manchester Monarchs Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations, Rich Seeley, announced today that Matt Leitner has been returned to Manchester from loan by the Springfield Thunderbirds (AHL), and Thomas Schemitsch and Rihards Bukarts have been assigned to the Monarchs by Springfield.
Leitner, 25, returns to Manchester after playing six games for the Thunderbird since being loaned Nov. 11. While with Springfield, Leitner posted two points on two assists. In his career, Leitner has logged 22 career games in the AHL between the Milwaukee Admirals, Ontario Reign and Thunderbirds, and has recorded six points on six assists.
The 5-foot-10, 185-pound native of Los Alamitos, Calif., has scored nine points so far this season with the Monarchs on one goal and eight assists.
Schemitsch, 20, has played six games for the Thunderbirds this season without recording a point. The defenseman was assigned to the Monarchs on Nov. 14 and played one game in Manchester.
The 6-foot-4, 205-pound native of Thornhill, Ontario, played 182 games over three seasons with the Owen Sound Attack (OHL), and compiled 97 points on 29 goals and 68 assists. The right-shot defenseman also played in 16 playoff games for Owen, scoring seven points on one goal and six assists. Schemitsch was a third-round pick (#88 overall) of the Florida Panthers in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
Bukarts, 20, comes to the Monarchs after playing 11 games with the Thunderbirds this season, recording two points on two assists. The 5-9, 185-pound native of Jurmala, Latvia spent the last three seasons in the WHL with the Brandon Wheat Kings and Portland Winterhawks where he played 192 games and scored 190 points on 92 goals and 98 assists.
Leitner, Schemitsch, Bukarts and the Monarchs are back on the ice Wednesday, Nov. 23 (7 p.m.) when they host the Florida Everblades for the first time in franchise history.
