Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indy Fuel, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and the AHL's Rockford IceHogs announced a series of transactions Wednesday prior to their game against the Kalamazoo Wings. The Fuel have signed forward Ryan Keller and defenseman Brandon Carlson, while forward Tyler Barnes was recalled by the IceHogs.
Keller, 23, is set to make his ECHL debut after recording two goals and two assists in seven games with the Southern Professional Hockey League's (SPHL) Peoria Rivermen. The 6-foot-2, 194-pound rookie forward from Farmington Hills, Mich. graduated from Michigan State University in 2016, where he played alongside Fuel goaltender Jake Hildebrand. In four seasons with the Spartans, Keller posted 39 points (18g, 21a) in 111 total NCAA contests, including a career high 19 points as a junior in 2014-15.
Carlson, 24, has appeared in 15 games this season for the University of Alabama-Huntsville. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound blueliner from Ladera Ranch, Calif. leaves the Chargers after tallying nine goals and 11 assists over 120 NCAA games. Carlson played four seasons in the USHL from 2009-2012, compiling 39 points (11g, 28a) and 342 penalty minutes in 192 contests split between the Dubuque Fightiing Saints, Lincoln Stars, Fargo Force and Des Moine Buccaneers.
Barnes, 26, set a franchise single-game record with a five-point performance in his Fuel debut on Sunday. The Burnsville, Minn. native scored Indy's first goal and assisted on the next four to help the Fuel to their fifth straight victory in a 6-5 defeat of the Atlanta Gladiators. A third-year pro out of the University of Wisconsin, Barnes has four goals in 16 career AHL games split among the IceHogs, Bridgeport Sound Tigers, Grand Rapids Griffins and San Antonio Rampage.
Barnes becomes the 17th different player to advance to the AHL after spending time with the Fuel, and the 12th to move on to Rockford.
