CINCINNATI, Ohio - Sam Warning scored twice as the Quad City Mallards (8-6-1) held off the host Cincinnati Cyclones' (7-7-2) comeback bid on the way to a 4-2 victory Wednesday night.

Warning scored his first goal from the doorstep at 4:12 of the second period to give the Mallards a 3-0 lead. That goal loomed large after the Cyclones battled back within one by scoring twice in two minutes and 23 seconds in the third period. Eric Knodel rifled in the first Cincinnati goal from the blue line on a power play at 5:47 of the second. Kenny Ryan's backhander from the slot narrowed the gap to 3-2 at the 8:10 mark, but Warning would finish off a 3-on-2 rush with a vital insurance goal at 12:12.

The Mallards never relinquished the lead after Guillaume Gelinas- who would add an assist- opened the scoring at 6:29 of the first period with a drive from the right point. The Mallards were on the power play when Chris Francis- who would also add an assist- one-timed home a cross-ice feed from Justin Kovacs- who piled up three assists- to extend the lead to 2-0 at 16:08 of the first.
