Thunder avoids sweep, beat Baysox 2-1

Bowie, MD- The Baysox threatened in the eighth inning with runners on second and third, but Charlie Manning came on to strike out Val Majewski to help preserve a 2-1 Thunder victory in Eastern League play.

Chien-ming Wang (5-4) earned the victory, to help Trenton (38-39) avoid a sweep, lasting 7.2 innings allowing just one run on seven hits. David Shepard came on to pitch the ninth to earn his 11th save.

Chris Piersoll (0-1) making his first start for Bowie (40-39) went 6.0 innings, giving up two earned runs on eight hits to take the loss.

Walter Young, who was named to the Southern Division All-Star team earlier in the day, hit a solo home run, his 19th, for the Baysox only run. Gary Cates, in his second game since being promoted from Delmarva went 4-for-4 with four singles.

Caonoba Cosme led the Thunder offense, going 2-for-4, while scoring both runs for the Trenton.

The Baysox continue their homestand with four games with the Erie SeaWolves tomorrow night at 7:05 pm. RHP Matt Bruback will take the hill for the Baysox. LHP Wilfredo Ledezma, who was named to the Southern Division All-Star team, will pitch for the SeaWolves.

Tomorrow night is GAS RELIEF Night at Prince George's Stadium. Fans can bring any gas receipt to the Baysox box office and receive 2-for-1 tickets. The Baysox will also attempt to break their own World Record for the "largest simultaneous whoopee cushion sit."
