Lancaster Stormers News Release
The Lancaster Barnstormers were guilty of three errors, each helping Camden to score, in a 4-3 Riversharks victory Friday evening at Campbell's Field.
Lancaster falls to 25-36 on the season, the same record held by the Riversharks.
In the first, after the Barnstormers squandered a pair of singles, Nate Reed (1-4) opened his night with a walk to Brandon Chaves. Daniel Rockett placed a bunt to the third base side of the mound. Wilson Batista's throw to first was wild, and Camden ended the play with runners at the corners. Joel Guzman bounced to the mound, but Carlos Guzman singled to left to drive in the game's first run. Reed fanned Ryan Strieby for the second out, but he hit Paddy Matera with a pitch to load the bases. Veteran DH Willis Otanez drove a ground rule double down the left field line for a 3-0 lead before Reed could get out of the inning.
The Lancaster lefty then retired 13 batters in a row before fading in the sixth inning.
However, Lancaster was not able to accomplish anything against Zach Clark (2-3), who went six innings. The right-hander yielded three hits while walking and striking out two apiece.
Camden stretched the lead to 4-0 in the seventh with the aid of two errors. Daniel Rockett rolled a single up the middle with two outs against Kyle Simon. Joel Guzman rolled a grounder to the right of first baseman Brian Cavazos-Galvez, who let it roll under his glove for an error. With runners at first and third, Carlos Guzman bounced a pitch to shortstop Bryant Nelson. The ball was bobbled initially, then Nelson pulled Luke Hughes off the second base bag with his throw as a run scored.
Kevin Rivers launched a two-run homer to right center into the wind in the eighth. Hughes opened the ninth with a blast to left, but Matt Gorgen struck out the side from there for his 14th save.
The two clubs are scheduled to meet again Saturday at 5:35. Lancaster will send Joe Gardner (2-1) to the mound against lefty Bill Murphy (1-7). The game will be joined in progress at 6:00 on 1390-AM, WLAN; rumba1390.com and the I Heart Radio cell phone app.
