(Sugar Land, Texas, June 26, 2015) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Sugar Land Skeeters 7-6 on Friday night in the fourth game of a six-game series at Constellation Field.
The Skeeters struck for three runs in the opening inning against Ducks starter Billy Buckner. RBI singles by Travis Scott and Johan Limonta, along with a RBI double by Kevin Russo, did the damage. The Ducks answered in the third with three two-out runs off of Skeeters starter Shane Loux. Lew Ford's RBI double and a two-run home run by Randy Ruiz highlighted the frame.
Sugar Land took the lead back in the fourth on a solo homer to right by Kelly Cross and a two-out RBI double by Scott. It stayed that way until the seventh when Long Island rallied for three more runs to take a 6-5 advantage. Delta Cleary, Jr.'s two-run double and Randy Ruiz's RBI single accounted for the scoring. However, a throwing error by Blake Davis on Amadeo Zazueta's fielder's choice in the bottom of the frame tied the contest at six.
Both sides exchanged zeroes until the bottom of the ninth inning when Zazueta won the game on a two-out RBI double down the right field line.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Buckner lasted four innings, surrendering five runs on 11 hits while striking out six. Loux pitched seven innings, giving up six runs on 11 hits with no walks or strikeouts. Derrick Loop (2-0) picked up the win after tossing a scoreless ninth despite walking two. Nick Struck (2-2) suffered the loss after yielding the winning run on two hits and a walk in two-thirds of an inning.
Cleary, Jr. led the Flock with three hits, while Ruiz, Ford and Bryan Sabatella each added two.
Long Island and Sugar Land continue their six-game set on Saturday night. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. EDT at Constellation Field.
