Three SeaWolves Named Eastern League All-Stars

(Erie, PA) - The Erie SeaWolves, Double-A Affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, are pleased to announce that the club will send three of its stars to the 2012 Eastern League All-Star Game on July 11 at Reading's First Energy Stadium.

First baseman Jordan Lennerton, shortstop Niuman Romero and right-handed starting pitcher James Avery will all participate in the Eastern League mid-summer classic in just under two weeks.

Entering play on Thursday, Lennerton is batting .284 with 15 home runs and 48 runs batted in. His 15 home runs rank second in the Eastern League and are a career-high for the resident of Langley, B.C. Lennerton has also been the top defensive first baseman in the league, as he has not committed an error in 585 chances.

Romero is currently fourth in the Eastern League with a batting average of .322. The switch-hitting shortstop from Venezuela has also hit four home runs and collected 45 RBI with Erie this season. Romero has 12 games of experience at the Major League level with Boston and Cleveland.

Avery is one of three pitchers to win a league-high eight games this season. The righty from Moose Jaw, Sask. is 8-6 with a 3.92 earned run average, striking out 66 batters. The 28-year-old was selected as an all-star at the Double-A level in 2009 for the Carolina Mudcats of the Southern League.
