OHL North Bay Battalion

Battalion Releases 2012-13 Schedule

June 28, 2012 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
North Bay Battalion News Release

BRAMPTON, Ont. "" The Brampton Battalion opens its 15th Ontario Hockey League season at home against the Niagara IceDogs on Friday, Sept. 21, the club announced Thursday.

The IceDogs, a Central Division rival and champions of the OHL's Eastern Conference, ousted the Battalion in four games in a best-of-seven conference semifinal last season. Two days after hosting Niagara, the Troops visit another division rival and playoff foe, the Sudbury Wolves, for a rare Sunday road matinee. The Battalion swept Sudbury in a conference quarterfinal last season.

The Battalion plays 34 home games, comprising 20 Sundays, seven Fridays, five Thursdays and two Mondays, namely Thanksgiving Day and New Year's Eve, with another division foe, the Mississauga Steelheads, providing the opposition for both of those games. The Troops host the Guelph Storm on Remembrance Day, Sunday, Nov. 11.

Start times are 2 p.m. on Sundays, Thanksgiving Monday and New Year's Eve, 7 p.m. on Thursdays and 7:30 p.m. on Fridays.

Within the Central, one of two divisions in the conference, the Battalion faces Mississauga and Sudbury eight times each and Niagara and the Barrie Colts six times each. The Troops play East Division teams four times each and Western Conference opponents twice each.

BATTALION NOTEBOOK: The Battalion visits the Ottawa 67's for a Family Day matinee Feb. 18. That game and the Troops' visit to Ottawa on March 12 will be played at Scotiabank Place, home of the National Hockey League's Ottawa Senators. The 67's will relocate to that building for their home games for the next two seasons with their standard home facility, the Civic Centre, unavailable because of the reconstruction of Lansdowne Park. The Battalion met the 67's at Scotiabank Place, then known as the Corel Centre, on March 27, 2004, when the Troops posted a 4-2 victory in the fifth game of a conference quarterfinal ... The 67's provide the opposition on Family Day for the first time. The Troops have previously visited the Oshawa Generals and Peterborough Petes on the insipidly named holiday ... The Battalion hosts the London Knights, reigning OHL champions, on Dec. 6 and visits London on Feb. 1 ... The Troops' busiest months are October and November, with 12 games scheduled in each ... The Battalion plays five consecutive road games between Nov. 14 and 23. The Troops play eight games away from home during the month ... The last time the Battalion played a home game on a Monday other than Thanksgiving saw an 8-1 win over the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors on Dec. 31, 2007 ... The Troops' New Year's Eve date against the Steelheads completes the Battalion's only home-and-home set of the season. It opens at Mississauga on Dec. 30.
