
Three-Run Tenth Vaults Shorebirds to 4-2 Win

Hickory, N.C. - The Delmarva Shorebirds (47-54, 12-19) scored three runs in the tenth inning, all with two outs, to defeat the Hickory Crawdads 4-2 at L.P. Frans Stadium on Monday night. The Shorebirds take a two games to one lead in the series.
The Hickory Crawdads scored a run in the first for a third straight game. Matt Bywater issued walks to Jurickson Porfar and Jake Skole. Then, Christian Villanueva singled through the left side of the infield.
The Shorebirds cracked the scoreboard in the top of the fifth. Riley Hornback crushed his first professional homer well beyond the left field wall to tie the game at 1-1.
Shorebirds starter Bywater tossed five innings in his second start. He allowed just two hits and one run. Crawdads starter Roman Mendez held the Shorebirds to just three hits and one run over six innings.
Ashur Tolliver entered in the sixth inning and tossed three scoreless innings to increase his scoreless innings streak to eight innings (five outings).
Tied at one in the ninth, Brenden Webb gunned out Braxton Lane at the plate to extend the game. It was his league leading 14th outfield assist of the year.
In the tenth, the Shorebirds plated three runs to build a 4-1 lead. Hornback hit a one out single up the middle. Then, Michael Rooney reached on an error by Profar to put runners at first and second. With one out, Mikey Planeta grounded out to first to advance both runners. Then, Michael Mooney hit a two-run single to left field to give the âBirds a 3-1 lead. Brenden Webb followed with a double down the left field line to score Mooney.
The Crawdads plated a run in the bottom of the tenth against David Walters on back-to-back doubles by Josh Richmond and Odubel Herrera to trim the deficit to 4-2. Walters retired the next two batters to pick up his 23rd save of the season.
Tim Adleman picked up his fifth win of the season by tossing a scoreless ninth inning.
The Shorebirds and Crawdads play the series finale on Tuesday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. RHP David Baker is scheduled to make his third start of the season.
