LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws topped the Augusta GreenJackets 3-1 to win their second straight game. It was a scoreless game until the bottom of the 7th inning when Lakewood scored twice. The BlueClaws added 1 more in the 8th inning and Augusta broke up the shutout with a run in the 9th for the 3-1 Lakewood win. Both starting pitchers threw gems, but Lakewood's David Buchanan out-dueled Augusta's Michael Kickham for the victory.

Buchanan threw 8 shutout innings allowing just 4 hits and striking out 7 batters in earning the victory. With the win, Buchanan advances to 11-5 on the year and he becomes the first pitcher in the South Atlantic League to get to 11 victories. Michael Kichham was good allowing 2 runs over 6 1/3rd innings. He allowed only 4 hits and struck out 7 as well while walking 3 batters. Ryan Duke pitched the 9th inning to collect his 3rd save as a BlueClaw.

It was still 0-0 when the bottom of the 7th inning began, and Steve Singleton lead the inning off with a double for Lakewood. He moved to third base on a ground out to first by Domingo Santana, then Anthony Hewitt drove in Singleton for his 40th RBI of the year. Hewitt stole second, then moved to third on Jeff Lanning's single. Carlos Perdomo then executed the first squeeze play of the year for Lakewood with a successful bunt up the 1B line scoring Hewitt from 3B to give the BlueClaws a 2-0 lead. In all, Santana and Hewitt each chipped in with 2 base hits for the BlueClaws as they out hit August 8-6 in the game.

The 4th and final game of the 4 game series will be played Tuesday night in Lakewood. Lefty Jesse Biddle (5-6, 3.10 ERA) will start for the BlueClaws, and Augusta will counter with fellow southpaw Ryan Bradley (1-1, 5.05 ERA). First Pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p on Tuesday.
