Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Lakewood, NJ - Mike Kickham was solid through six innings before his luck ran out in the seventh as the Augusta GreenJackets dropped their second straight game to the Lakewood BlueClaws, falling 3-1 on Monday night.
Kickham allowed just two hits in six scoreless innings before Steve Singleton doubled to lead off the Lakewood half of the seventh. Singleton moved to third on a groundout and scored on Anthony Hewitt's line drive single past a drawn-in infield. Kickham was replaced by Austin Fleet, who gave up a single to put runners at the corners. Carlos Perdomo followed and placed a safety squeeze bunt inside the first base line to bring in a second run before Fleet got out of the inning with two strikeouts.
Kickham (2-6) allowed two runs on four hits and three walks in a season-long 6.1 innings. He struck out seven and had great movement on his breaking pitches and off-speed repertoire.
The BlueClaws added another run off Fleet in the eighth inning when Domingo Santana's infield single scored Zach Collier to give Lakewood a 3-0 edge.
David Buchanan held the GreenJackets in check through eight scoreless innings for the BlueClaws, taking sole possession of the league lead in wins with his 11th victory of the season. Buchanan (11-5) allowed four hits and didn't walk anyone while equaling his season-high in strikeouts with seven. The GreenJackets only managed multiple runners on base in the same inning once against Buchanan, when Augusta had runners at the corners with one out in the second. The GreenJackets couldn't capitalize and didn't get a runner to third again until the eighth.
In the ninth, the GreenJackets dented the scoreboard against Ryan Duke. Ryan Lollis led off with a single and later scored from second on Rafael Rodriguez's two-out, two-strike base hit to put Augusta on the board. With Raynor Campbell at the plate as the tying run, Rodriguez was thrown out in an attempt to steal second to end the ballgame. Duke earned his third save of the year for the BlueClaws.
The GreenJackets will try and salvage a series split on Tuesday in the final game of the team's seven-game road trip. Ryan Bradley (1-1, 5.05) gets the ball for the GreenJackets and will face Jesse Biddle (5-6, 3.10) in a pairing of lefties. First pitch from Lakewood comes at 7:05 p.m. with radio pregame coverage beginning at 6:50, airing on WRDW-AM 1630 and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com .
