
Three-Run Eighth Hurts Osprey in Loss

MISSOULA, MONT. - The Missoula Osprey (9-9) saw a 2-0 lead evaporate in the top of the eighth to the visiting Billings Mustangs (9-8) in front of the second-largest crowd of 4,309 fans at Ogren Park Allegiance Field. With three runs in the top of the inning, Billings would hold on for a 3-2 win over Missoula. The O's placed the tying run at third in the ninth but Jefry Sierra induced a groundout of Maik Ehmcke end Missoula's rally.
Missoula hurler Carlos Hernandez picked up four strikeouts but gave up five walks in his four innings of work. The Osprey starter gave up four hits and saw a Billings runners tagged out at the plate in each the first and second innings.
Lawrence Pardo and Will Landsheft combined for three shutout innings to keep the O's in the lead after Missoula put two on the board with a Yosbel Gutierrez 2 RBI single to right field in the second inning. The Osprey pitching staff put runners on, but managed to find its way out of jams with fourteen Mustang runners left on base.
Jake Mayers went 2-2 with a double and walk as the Osprey managed six hits off four Billings pitchers. Brody Greer (0-2) took the loss with three runs in the eighth by a two-run homer off the bat of Jimmy Pickens and a go-ahead blast by Ty Washington.
Jacob Moody (1-0) received the win with two hitless innings in relief. Jefry Sierra picked up his second save of the season for Billings with only a hit-batter in the ninth inning.
