Haupt, Voyagers Snap Streak in Helena

HELENA, Mont. - The Great Falls Voyagers snapped their five-game losing streak Wednesday night, using a big night at the plate from Dillon Haupt to pick up a 3-1 victory over the Helena Brewers at Kindrick Field.
Haupt's big night began in the very first inning as he drilled a double up the gap in right-center to drive in Toby Thomas and Hunter Jones, to give Great Falls (9-8) an early 2-0 lead.
The catcher then drove in the other Voyager run in the third, taking Chad Thompson (2-2) deep for his second homer of the year, and giving him homers in back-to-back starts.
The rest of the night belonged to the pitching staffs on both sides. Great Falls starter Chris Freudenberg (1-2) turned in his second quality start of the campaign, allowing a run on five hits in six frames. The lone run he surrendered to the Brewers (7-9) came in the second when catcher Greg McCall took the southpaw deep for a solo shot.
After Freudenberg exited, the relief duo of Matt Cooper and Jon Bengard finished what the southpaw started. Cooper put up zeroes in the both seventh and eighth frames, compiling three strikeouts to keep the advantage at two for Great Falls.
Bengard then came on for the ninth, striking out the side to collect his third save, which ties him for the Pioneer League lead.
The win snaps the Voyagers five-game losing streak, and with Missoula's loss to Billings, puts Great Falls into a tie with the Osprey for first place in the Pioneer League North Division.
The Voyagers and Brewers meet up again over the next two days, this time at Centene Stadium. Thursday night, Great Falls will send right-hander Matt Ball (0-0, 4.85) to the mound while the Brewers will turn to fellow righty Devin Williams (1-1, 3.38). First pitch is set for 7:00 and coverage will begin at 6:45 on 1400 AM KXGF and gfvoyagers.com.
