Colorado Rapids News Release
Two defenders and an attacker were selected by the Colorado Rapids on Tuesday, as the 2015 MLS SuperDraft was completed.
The Rapids were without a pick in Round 3, but opted for Dominique Badji with their first selection of the fourth round (67th overall). Born in Senegal, the six foot tall striker emerged from Boston University, who he helped to its first conference championship final appearance since 2009 with a personal-best eight goals and four assists. That form earned Badji the 2014 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year award.
Second to be chosen by the Rapids on Tuesday was the solid defender Matt Jeffery, out of Monmouth University. Standing six feet four inches, Jeffery was a three-time All-Region selection. He earned his second-consecutive MAAC Defensive Player of the Year award this past season. He was taken with the 78th pick overall.
"It's a dream come true to be drafted," said Jeffery. "It's something every player dreams of when they're young and trying to develop and shooting to become a professional soccer player.
"I'm thankful and very blessed to be given this opportunity to go out to Colorado and try to prove myself. I can't say enough about the program and coaching staff at Monmouth for helping in my development. I'm thankful for the past four years in helping to put me in position to be where I am today with the potential of signing a professional contract."
The third and final selection made by the Rapids from the 2015 MLS SuperDraft was Brandon Fricke (83rd overall), from Butler University. Fricke started all 18 matches for Butler last season, including a meeting with a Marquette side that included new teammate Axel Sjöberg.
