January 20, 2015 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
LA Galaxy News Release
CARSON, Calif. (Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015) - The LA Galaxy have re-signed defender Dan Gargan, the club announced today. Gargan, a nine-year MLS veteran, signed with the Galaxy in March of 2014 before going on to start in 27 MLS Regular Season games for a Galaxy backline that was tied for the fewest goals allowed in MLS with 37. Per MLS and club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Gargan, 32, joined the Galaxy ahead of the 2014 season after spending the previous year with the San Jose Earthquakes. With 29 total appearances with the Galaxy in 2014, Gargan enjoyed the most productive season of his MLS career, notching career highs in appearances (29), starts (27) and assists (5), with his five assists tied for the most of any MLS Defender.
In addition to his regular season contributions, Gargan also played a vital role in the postseason when he appeared in all five of the Galaxy's playoff matches as the Galaxy became the first team to win five MLS Cups.
Born in Philadelphia, Penn., Gargan attended Georgetown University and was drafted with the 43rd overall selection by the Colorado Rapids in the 2005 MLS Supplemental Draft. He went on to make 49 total appearances in four years with the Rapids. Following his time in Colorado, the right back spent time with Chivas USA (2008), Toronto FC (2010-11), the Chicago Fire (2011-12) and the San Jose Earthquakes (2013) before joining the Galaxy. Gargan has made a total 160 MLS appearances during his career, scoring two goals and recording 14 assists.
