HOUSTON (Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015) - The Houston Dynamo selected defender Taylor Hunter from the University of Denver in the third round (No. 49 overall selection) of today's MLS SuperDraft, held via teleconference.

Hunter, 21, earned NSCAA All-West region third-team honors in 2014 after leading the Pioneers to their second consecutive Summit League championship. An Aurora, Colorado native, Hunter was named MVP of the Summit League tournament last season. Hunter, a Finance major, earned Summit League Academic All-League team honors for the second straight year in 2014.

" Taylor is a young defender who has a real desire to keep on improving," Dynamo head coach Owen Coyle said. "He is mobile and has good technical ability."

Hunter served as captain in 2014 as Denver reached the NCAA tournament in consecutive seasons for the first time in program history. The defender appeared in 69 games in four seasons with the Pioneers.

Hunter will join Zach Steinberger, Oumar Ballo and Rob Lovejoy in Dynamo preseason training after they were selected in the first two rounds of the draft last Thursday.
