
Chicago Fire Select Alex Shinsky in MLS SuperDraft

CHICAGO (Jan. 20, 2015) - The Chicago Fire selected University of Maryland midfielder Alex Shinsky in the fourth round (68th overall) of the 2015 MLS SuperDraft.
Shinsky joins the Fire after a four-year collegiate career at the University of Maryland. The 21-year-old midfielder and senior captain made 56 career appearances for the Terps, scoring three goals and tallying seven assists. Shinsky helped Maryland to the 2012 ACC championship and to the 2013 College Cup final, where the Terps fell 2-1 to Notre Dame, who were led by Fire Homegrown midfielder Harry Shipp.
A native of York, Pa. and a U.S. youth international, Shinsky scored the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over Malawi in the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Nigeria.
In total, the Fire have added three players to its preseason training camp roster through the MLS SuperDraft, having selected Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville midfielder/defender Matt Polster in the first round (seventh overall) and Saint Louis University forward Kingsley Bryce in the second round (28th overall).
