Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton, Ohio-Dayton pitchers Jordan Hotchkiss, Ezequiel Infante, and Scott Gaffney combined on a six-hit shutout as the Dayton Dragons defeated the Burlington Bees 2-0 on Friday night. The Dragons snapped a three-game losing streak with the win. Dayton is 8-4 over its last 12 games.

Hotchkiss made an emergency start when scheduled starter Curtis Partch was promoted to Sarasota just minutes before the first pitch. In the first start of his three-year professional career, Hotchkiss worked the first five innings, allowing four hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

Infante (1-0) replaced Hotchkiss and worked three innings, striking out five. He allowed just two base runners (both on singles) to earn his first win.

The Dragons scored the only runs of the game in the seventh inning. With one out, Mike Konstanty singled to left and went to second when Miguel Rojas walked. Yen-Wen Kuo followed with a single to center that barely eluded the reach of second baseman Fernando Garcia. Konstanty scored from second on the play as Rojas raced around to third. Kuo tried to take second on the throw to the plate and as the Burlington defense attempted to rundown Kuo, Rojas sprinted in from third and scored on a hands-first slide to make it 2-0.

Dayton reliever Scott Gaffney, just activated off the disabled list after missing more than two weeks with a strained hamstring, tossed a perfect ninth inning for his fifth save.

Dayton had only four hits. Konstanty, Rojas, Kuo, and Josh Fellhauer each had one.

The Dragons (15-18, 43-60) host the Bees (14-19, 43-60) on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. in the second game of the series. Oscar Castro (2-3, 6.95) will start for Dayton. The game will be televised on WHIO Digital Channel 7.2 (708 on most Time Warner cable systems).
