Bees Lose Pitching Duel

Dayton, OH (July 31, 2009) - The Burlington Bees opened their series at Dayton with a 2-0 loss Friday night. Manauris Baez pitched six scoreless innings but the Dragons scored two runs in the seventh, which was enough for the win.

Manauris Baez got the start for the Bees and was very good. Baez pitched six shutout innings allowing just two hits with a season-high nine strikeouts and three walks. Baez did not factor into the decision. After Baez left the game, the Dragons scored the only runs of the night scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. James Thompson took the loss for the Bees allowing two runs on two hits with two strikeouts and one walk.

The Bees outhit Dayton 6-4. Fernando Garcia led the way going 2-3 and was the only Bees with more than one hit. It was the eighth time that the Bees have been shutout this season.

The Bees continue the three-game series at Dayton Saturday night. Ivor Hodgson is the scheduled starter. First pitch is scheduled for 6:07 and the game can be heard on News-Radio 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com. The Bees will return home for a four-game series with Quad Cities on Friday, August 7th.
