Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - Steve Parker drove in five runs and five different Cougars scored at least a pair of runs, helping visiting Kane County (16-18; 57-47) romp past the Lansing Lugnuts (13-20; 39-62), 12-4, before a crowd of 11,135 on a Friday night series opener at Oldsmobile Park.
Kane County exploded for four runs in the fifth inning, capped off by a Parker two-run single, and five runs in the sixth, capped off by a Parker two-run triple, to turn the game into a laugher.
Lugnuts starter Chris Holguin (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on four hits and three walks in five innings.
Cougars reliever Josue Selenis (5-1) earned the victory, the first of four relievers for Kane County after starter Murphy Smith worked four innings.
Designated hitter Petey Paramore was the only Cougar in the starting lineup not to collect a base hit in the rout, though Paramore did walk twice and score two runs. Jeremy Barfield, Dusty Coleman, and Dusty Coleman also scored two runs in the game, with lead-off hitter Leonardo Gil going 3-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored.
Shortstop Tyler Ladendorf, acquired earlier in the day by the Oakland Athletics from the Minnesota Twins in exchange for Orlando Cabrera, made his way to the stadium by game time and supplied a pinch-hit double in the eighth inning.
In defeat, Johermyn Chavez and A.J. Jimenez each went 2-for-4 while Brian Van Kirk went 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored.
The Lugnuts and Cougars play the middle affair of their three-game series at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday night at Oldsmobile Park, LAFCU Fireworks to follow the game. Right-hander Henderson Alvarez (7-5, 3.42) gets the start for Lansing against Kane County right-hander Kenny Smalley (8-3, 1.88).
