
Flores to Rancho; Dorado arrives from Orem; Calderon to DL

July 31, 2009 - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announce a trio of roster moves: LHP Manuel Flores has been promoted to Rancho Cucamonga; RHP Reyes Dorado joins the Kernels from Orem; and LHP Naldy Calderon has ended a rehab assignment in Tempe and has been assigned to the Kernels roster, but remains on the DL. Abe Flores, Director of Player Development for the LA Angels, announced the moves on Friday.
The Angels selected Dorado, 23, in the 14th round of the 2008 Free Agent Draft out of Arizona State University. He posted a 2-0 record and 5.63 ERA in 18 games (one start) at Orem, allowing 21 hits and 16 runs (15 earned) with 10 walks and 32 strikeouts in 24 IP. In nine relief appearances with Orem this year, he has an 1-1 record and 9.19 ERA in 15.2 IP.
Calderon pitched in 19 games for the Kernels in 2008, posting a 3-0 record and 1.59 ERA in 19 games with one save. He pitched in three games during his rehab with the AZL Angels.
Flores leaves the Kernels with a 7-4 record and 3.59 ERA in 19 starts with one complete game. He leads the MWL with 120.1 IP and was scheduled to start tonight's game in West Michigan. His start will be taken by RHP Matt Shoemaker.
Dorado will join the team in Great Lakes, MI and be available for tonight's 6:00 pm game with West Michigan. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster is at the MWL maximum of 25 active players, with five players currently on the DL.
