South Bend, IN -The Peoria Chiefs erased a five run deficit by scoring 12 unanswered runs and newcomer Brett Jackson drove home the eventual game winner in a 15-8 win over the South Bend Silver Hawks on Friday night. The win extends the Chiefs winning streak to eight games and moves them to 18-15 on the half and 56-46 for the regular season.

Peoria picked up a run with a two-out rally in the top of the first against Silver Hawks starter Daniel Vasquez. Rebel Ridling got things going with a sharp single to left and Kyler Burke worked a full-count walk. D.J. LeMahieu put the Chiefs on top 1-0 with a flare single to right field as Burke moved up to third. Vasquez recovered to get Jovan Rosa on a flyout to right to end the frame with the Chiefs leading by one.

Aaron Shafer was hit hard in the second inning by a Silver Hawks team that entered the game dead last in the MWL in homers with just 29 in their first 100 games. Justin Parker tied the game 1-1 with a lead off homer to left, his second of the season. Two batters later Nelson Gomez put South Bend on top 2-1 with a solo homer of his own to left field.

The Chiefs regained the lead in the top of the third against Vasquez. Newcomer, and first round draftee, Brett Jackson started the inning with a single and stole second as Ryan Flaherty struck out. Ridling tied the game with a double to left-center and Burke again walked. LeMahieu singled to put the Chiefs on top for the second time in as many at-bats as Ridling scored for a 3-2 Peoria lead.

South Bend got the hit parade going again in the third inning and knocked Shafer from the game after taking the lead. Renaldo Navarro led off with an infield hit when Junior Lake threw in the dirt to first base. With one down, A.J. Pollock reached on a bunt single and the duo pulled off a double steal before Parker lined out to shortstop. Rossmel Perez gave the Hawks a 4-3 lead with a double to right-center and he advanced to third on a wild pitch. Shafer walked Gomez and was called for a balk on the often-used fake third throw to first move, allowing Perez to scored for a 5-3 South Bend lead. After Isaias Gomez walked, Erik Hamren relieved Shafer with two down. Chris Davis greeted Hamren with a three-run homer that put South Bend on top 8-3.

The Chiefs came right back in the top of the fourth against Silver Hawks' reliever Sean Morgan. David Macias walked with one out and Flaherty singled with two down. Ridling made it an 8-6 contest with his 13th homer of the season, a three-run shot that completely left the ballpark to left field. Burke followed with a solo homer of his own, his ninth of the season to cut the deficit to 8-7.

Sending 10 batters to the plate, Peoria took over the lead for good in the top of the fifth against reliever Yonata Ortega. Rosa led off with an infield single and Michael Brenly singled to center before Lake flew out. Macias tied the game with a double down the right-field line as Rosa scored. Jackson gave the Chiefs the lead for good with a double to left that plated both Brenly and Macias for a 10-8 lead. Jackson stole third and scored on a single by Flaherty. Ridling reached on another single and Burke doubled home two for a 13-8 Chiefs advantage. Two wild pitches scored Burke for a 14-8 lead and a seven-run inning.

The Chiefs capped off their offensive night in the eighth inning against Bryan Woodall who had not allowed a run in his last 21 innings. Burke led off with his second double of the night and moved to third base on a groundout. Rosa made it 15-8 with a sacrifice fly to center for his 19th RBI in 21 games.

Shafer got a no-decision despite allowing seven runs on six hits and two walks over just 2 2/3 innings. Hamren (3-3) allowed one run on three hits over 2 1/3 innings to pick up the win. Ryan Buchter threw two shutout innings and allowed two hits while striking out one. Manolin DeLeon struck out one over two perfect innings.
