Fort Wayne, IN - Former Fort Wayne manager Randy Ready was hired today as the San Diego Padres' hitting coach. Ready was the manager in Fort Wayne for three seasons (2004-06) and is the franchise's all-time leader in wins for a manager. He vacates his post as the manager of the Triple-A Portland Beavers.

"Randy has been a part of our Minor League system for the past six seasons and has helped to develop many of our current Major League players," Padres general manager Kevin Towers said. "He will be an asset to our Major League staff and clubhouse."

Ready led Fort Wayne to the Midwest League playoffs each of his three seasons in the Summit City.

Ready is in his sixth season in the Padres' organization. After leaving Fort Wayne, he went to Double-A San Antonio in 2007 and on to Portland for the last two seasons.

He joins another Fort Wayne coaching alum in San Diego: Padres' pitching coach Darren Balsley. Balsley was the Fort Wayne pitching coach in 2000.

The Fort Wayne TinCaps continue a 10-game homestand at Parkview Field tonight at 7:05pm against the Beloit Snappers. The homestand concludes on Thursday, August 6th .
