Saskatoon Blades News Release
SASKATOON, SK - Three members of the Saskatoon Blades have been named to NHL Central Scouting's latest "Player's To Watch List" in advance of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
Import right-winger Nikita Scherbak leads the charge for Saskatoon, being recognized as an "A" skater on the list, which was released on Thursday morning. According to the criteria of the list, being categorized as an "A" skater means Scherbak is a candidate to be selected in the 1st round of the upcoming NHL Draft.
The Moscow, Russia product is currently second on the Blades in scoring. He's put up 31 points in 23 games, being tied for the team lead in goals with 12 and powerplay goals with 6. The Blades October Player Of The Month currently holds a 4-point lead in WHL rookie scoring over Swift Current defenceman Julius Honka, who is also listed as an "A" skater by NHL Central Scouting.
Next on the list for the Blades is Saskatoon-born defenceman Nelson Nogier. NHL Central Scouting has the 6'2 defender listed as a "B" skater. That projection puts Nogier in the 2nd or 3rd round range for the 2014 NHL Draft. The Blades alternate captain is currently in his second full season in the WHL. He's put up 6 points in 24 games while logging roughly 25 minutes per night while playing on the team's top defensive pairing alongside Blades captain Graeme Craig.
Rounding out the list for Saskatoon is goaltender Alex Moodie, who joins the list as a "C" skater. That projection has Moodie in the 4th-6th round range for the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Moodie has appeared in 16 games this season for Saskatoon, winning 6 of them. For the year he's put up a 3.64 goals against average and a .908 save percentage.
