38 WHL Players on NHL Watch List
November 14, 2013 - Western Hockey League (WHL) News Release
Calgary, AB - 35 WHL skaters and three WHL goaltenders are among the players listed in NHL Central Scouting's latest "ÃËPlayers to Watch' list for the 2014 NHL Draft.
Eight WHL players were listed in the "ÃËA' Skaters category, which indicates they are a possible first-round pick for the 2014 NHL Draft. Kootenay forward Sam Reinhart, Portland's Chase De Leo, Prince Albert's Leon Draisaitl, Red Deer's Haydn Fleury and Swift Current Broncos defenders Julius Honka and Brycen Martin have been joined by fast-rising Saskatoon Blades forward Nikita Scherbak as WHL skaters rated in the "ÃËA' category.
Scherbak, who was not on the Central Scouting's initial "ÃËOnes to Watch' list in September, has impressed in his rookie campaign for the Blades, leading all WHL first-year players in goals and points.
Another six WHL skaters are listed in the "ÃËB' category while 21 WHL skaters are in the "ÃËC' category.
Goaltender Austin Lotz of the Everett Silvertips finds himself listed in the "ÃËB' Goaltenders category while Prince George's Ty Edmonds and Saskatoon's Alex Moodie are rated in the "ÃËC' classification for goaltenders.
Two other WHL players - Kootenay's Tanner Faith and Tri-City's Taylor Vickerman - fall under the Limited Viewing category.
The WHL continues to be a leading supplier of talent for the National Hockey League. 20% of all players who played in the NHL during the 2012-13 season are WHL Graduates. 33 WHL Players were selected by NHL Clubs at the 2013 NHL Draft in New Jersey, including eight players chosen in the first round.
