Thrashers recall goaltender Michael Garnett

The Atlanta Thrashers have assigned center JIM SLATER and recalled goaltender MICHAEL GARNETT from the Chicago Wolves. In addition, the Wolves have signed goaltender and Chicago native GREGG NAUMENKO (NOH-mehn-koh).

SLATER led Michigan State University and ranked fifth in the CCHA with 48 points last year. Atlanta's first-round pick (30th overall) in the 2002 National Hockey League Entry Draft, he ranks 23rd all-time in Michigan State history with 172 points (64G, 108A) in 157 games spanning four seasons (2001-2005).

The 22-year-old forward was held scoreless in the Thrashers' season-opener on Wednesday, his NHL debut.

GARNETT recorded an 11-9-0 mark with a 2.86 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage with the Wolves last season. He finished fifth in the American Hockey League with a .889 shootout save percentage (eight saves on nine shots).

NAUMENKO posted a 2-1-1 record with a 3.25 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage in five games with the ECHL's South Carolina Stingrays last season. The 28-year-old netminder has played two NHL games with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks (2000-01), recording a 0-1-0 mark with a 6.00 goals-against average.
