Wolves name Derek MacKenzie new team captain

The Chicago Wolves have named DEREK MacKENZIE as the team's new captain.

The 24-year-old forward becomes just the fourth player in franchise history to wear the "C" after Steve Maltais (1994-1996 and 1997-2005), Troy Murray (1996-97) and Kevin Dahl (2000-01). MacKENZIE, who is beginning his fifth season with the Wolves, is the team's active leader in games played (289), goals (59), assists (66) and points (125).

Defensemen TRAVIS ROCHE and 12-year National Hockey League veteran CHRIS TAMER have been awarded alternate captain status this season.

The Wolves regular season gets underway against the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights at the Omaha Civic Auditorium tonight at 7 p.m.

Chicago opens its 40-game home schedule against the Manitoba Moose at the Allstate Arena on Sat., Oct. 15, at 7 p.m.
