Thrashers Ask Wolves to Pass the Heins

The Atlanta Thrashers have recalled defenseman Shawn Heins from the Chicago Wolves.

This is the third trip to Atlanta for the 30-year-old blueliner, who has tallied four assists and 14 penalty minutes in 16 games with the Thrashers this season.

Heins ranks second among Wolves defensemen with eight goals and third among team blueliners with 18 assists and 26 points in 51 games this season.

Heins split last season between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the San Jose Sharks, recording one goal, two assists and 42 penalty minutes in 47 games. Overall, Heins has posted four goals; 12 assists; 16 points; and 152 penalty minutes in 124 career National Hockey League games with the Sharks (1998-2003); Penguins (2002-03); and Thrashers (2003-04).

Originally signed by San Jose on Jan. 5, 1997, the 6-foot-4-inch, 210-pound defenseman has played parts of four seasons in the American Hockey League, registering 21 goals; 72 assists; 93 points; and 459 penalty minutes in 139 games with the Cape Breton Oilers (1995-96); Kentucky Thoroughblades (1998-2000); and Chicago (2003-04).
