Penguins' Beech named Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week
March 29, 2004 - American Hockey League (AHL) News Release
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... The American Hockey League announced today that Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins center Kris Beech has been named the Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week for the period ending March 28, 2004. Beech tallied four goals and three assists for seven points in three games last week as the Penguins closed in on a playoff spot in the East Division.
In his second game back after missing 21 contests with a broken collarbone, Beech scored twice on Wednesday and added two assists to help Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to a 4-3 win over Manchester, his first four-point game as a pro. Beech followed that effort up with two more goals in a 4-2 win over rival Hershey, then recorded an assist in Saturday's 2-1 victory over Albany. For the week, Beech figured in the scoring on seven of the Penguins' 10 goals.
In recognition of his achievement, Beech will receive a Sher-Wood leather jacket, presented to him during an on-ice ceremony prior to an upcoming game. In addition, Sher-Wood will donate five travel bags to the Pocono Pirates Amateur Youth Hockey Club in Beech's name.
The seventh overall pick in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft by Washington, Beech has recorded 19 goals and 22 assists for 41 points, along with a team-high plus-15 rating, in 48 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season. The 23-year-old native of Salmon Arm, B.C., is in his third professional season, and has totaled 84 points in 98 career AHL games with the Penguins.
