Providence Bruins News Release
The Providence Bruins begin the week in fourth place in the Atlantic Division with their 32-26-10-4 record (78 points). The Black and Gold is three points behind the third place Worcester IceCats. Head Coach Scott Gordon's team is nine points away from securing a berth in the Calder Cup Playoffs for the 10th time in the 12-year history of the franchise. Any combination of Bruins points gained and Portland Pirates points missed equaling nine will qualify the Black and Gold for the post-season.
The Bruins will play four games this week, including three on home ice. The action begins on Wednesday, March 31 at 7:05 p.m., when they host the Lowell Lock Monsters. The Bruins host the Springfield Falcons on Friday, April 2 at 7:05 p.m., before visiting the Portland Pirates the next night at 7:05 p.m. The weekend concludes on Sunday, April 4 at 4:05 p.m., when they host the Hartford Wolf Pack.
Friday's game will be televised live on COX-3. Corey Masse will handle the play-by-play action, while long-time college and professional analyst Bob Norton will be the color analyst. The game is the final contest of four this season to be shown on COX-3.
P-Bruins center Andre Savage is on the verge of making franchise history. His next assist will tie him with former Bruin defenseman Brandon Smith for the franchise career record with 104 assists. He is currently tied for second with former Bruins Randy Robitaille and Sergei Zholtok. Savage ranks second in franchise career scoring, with 71-103-174 totals in 188 games. He trails Zholtok by 12 points. Savage, who was acquired on loan from the Philadelphia Phantoms on October 29, has 16-29-45 totals in 60 games this season with the Bruins. He ranks second on the club overall with 17-29-46 totals in 68 games.
Bruin center Brad Boyes will be on COX-3's "Sports Page Live" tonight at 7:00 p.m. The show is hosted by A.J. Vittone. Boyes, who was acquired by the Boston Bruins from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for Jeff Jillson on March 9, leads the team and is tied for fifth in AHL scoring with 29-37-66 totals in 70 games.
Bruin captain Rich Brennan will be on this week's edition of "Providence Bruins Weekly Presented by National City Mortgage", on Tuesday, March 30 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., on WSKO AM-790, The Score.
