Third Period Push Falls Short for K-Wings

Kalamazoo Wings News Release
TOLEDO, OH- The Kalamazoo Wings mounted a comeback and clawed to within a goal in the third period, but the quick-strike offense of the Toledo Walleye was too much down the stretch, as Kalamazoo dropped a 6-2 decision at the Huntington Center on Saturday night.
Buzzing from their comeback win the night before, Toledo earned the game's first goal after just over five minutes of gameplay. *Alex Globke* rolled the puck around the end wall and onto the tape of *Evan Rankin*, whose backdoor feed set up an open opportunity for *Alden Hirschfeld* to bury his fourth goal of the season.
Minutes later, Hirschfeld carried the puck into the Kalamazoo zone, darted to the outside, and wrapped around the goal of Joel Martin. With Martin sliding left to right in his crease, Hirschfeld showed the composure to find a seam and slip the puck over the line.
Building upon their lead midway through the second, A.J. Jenks raced through the neutral zone after catching a feed from Beau Schmitz and gained entry into the Wings' zone. Jenks carried the puck to the goal and snapped a wrister that was stopped by Martin, but the rebound bounced off the chest of Jenks and into the goal, establishing a 3-0 lead for the Walleye.
Kalamazoo showed signs of life early in the third period, and registered their first goal of the night, shortly after killing off a Dajon Mingo minor penalty. Lane Scheidl forced a turnover in the defensive end and outraced the Walleye defenders down the ice for a breakaway, where he pumped a shot over the leg of Jake Paterson, pulling the Wings to within a goal.
Later in the period and on a power play, Kalamazoo continued their comeback bid with sustained pressure in the Toledo zone and crisp passing. *Tanner Sorenson *tapped the puck to Tyler Biggs, who launched a shot that was initially stopped by Paterson, but Brian Hart twisted the rebound into the goal for his first of the season.
With the game at a one-goal margin, Toledo punched on the gas and dominated the closing minutes of the third period, scoring three goals over a span of 2:28 of gameplay. Simon Denis tallied a goal at 15:31 of the period off a backdoor feed, Shane Berschbach notched a power play goal by cashing in on a rebound in the crease, and Tyson Spink capped off the run 49 seconds later with a creative deke that beat Martin.
