Idaho Steelheads News Release
Norfolk, VA (11/19/16)- Jefferson Dahl redirected a power play point shot past Norfolk's Connor Knapp early in the third period to fuel the Idaho Steelheads (9-5-2) to a 4-1 win over the Admirals (2-9-3) at Norfolk Scope on Saturday night. The first-place Steelheads grabbed five of an available six points in Norfolk, and have earned points in five straight games and in nine of their last 11 contests.
Dahl's goal came at 6:34 of the third period shortly after an interference penalty on Norfolk's Aaron Harstad. Each team had just two power plays in the game and Dahl made it count, redirecting a wrister from rookie defenseman Brandon Anselmini to make it 2-1. The goal was Dahl's team-leading seventh of the season, giving him goals in three straight contests. Anselmini has registered nine assists in 11 games and has six power play assists, second most in the league.
Travis Ewanyk would add two empty-net goals in the final two minutes of the game to secure the win for Idaho.
Brian Nugent got Idaho on the board first with his first goal as a Steelhead, a deflection of a Zach Bell point shot at 4:05 of the second period. That lead lasted 1:20 before John Kurtz drew the Admirals even with his second of the season, a one-timer from the high slot.
Landon Bow made 35 saves in the game, 15 of them in the third period, and perhaps one of his best on Jaedon Descheneau. The Admirals earned a power play shortly after Dahl's goal. After defenseman Charlie Dodero fell down at the Idaho blue line, Jeff DiNallo was able to carry the puck into the Steelhead zone and fire the puck across for Descheneau, who has scored three goals in six games for Norfolk. Bow stretched across with the glove as Descheneau crashed into him, keeping the puck out and preserving the Idaho lead.
The Steelheads have now scored power play goals in 13 of 16 games this season. The penalty kill was also 6-for-6 in the three-game series.
