Daniel Doremus nets game-winning-goal in overtime MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Manchester Monarchs finished off a four-game sweep of the Reading Royals with a 4-3 overtime victory Saturday night at SNHU Arena on Mullets in Movember. With the win, the Monarchs (10-4-0-1) have now taken all five meetings with the Royals (6-8-1-1) this season. "I didn't think we came out executing the way we wanted to, but as the game moved on, we started to do the little things that make us successful," Monarchs head coach, Rich Seeley, said. "It was a hard-fought game and Reading is a very talented team, so it feels good to take this one tonight."
The Royals got on the board first when Mike Pereira scored his 6th goal of the season at 5:33 of the opening period. Pereira found the loose puck in the slot and swiped the puck past Monarchs goaltender, Sam Brittain, for the early 1-0 Royals lead.
Manchester tied the game when Quentin Shore netted his 6th goal of the season at 1:21 of the second period. Kevin Morris sent a shot on net that was deflected to Shore who took the puck on his backhand and flipped it over the glove of Royals goaltender, Mark Dekanich, to make the score, 1-1.
The Monarchs added to their lead when Joey Diamond scored his 7th goal of the season at 2:50 of the second period while on the power play. Justin Agosta sent a shot from the middle of the blue line that tipped off Shore, but the puck deflected directly to Diamond who had nothing but twine in front of him to make the score, 2-0, Monarchs.
Jordan LaValle-Smotherman gave the Monarchs a two-goal advantage when he scored his 1st goal of the season at 5:56 of the middle frame. LaValle-Smotherman took a big carom off the end boards on a shot by David Kolomatis, and buried the puck into the yawning cage for a 3-1 Monarchs advantage.
The Royals crept closer when Olivier Labelle scored his 6th goal of the season at 7:06 of the second period. Chris McCarthy sent a shot on goal from the high slot that Brittain saved, but the Monarchs goaltender couldn't control the rebound and Labelle stuffed the puck through Brittain to make the score, 3-2, Monarchs.
The Royals tied the contest with a goal from McCarthy with 1:09 remaining in the third period. With Dekanich pulled, Florian Iberer had control of the puck at the point where he played give-and-go with McCarthy who released a one-timer from the top of the left circle that found a hole on the short-side of Brittain to send the game into overtime.
Daniel Doremus ended the game when he scored his 2nd goal of the season at 2:39 of the overtime period. While skating 3-on-3, Doremus dropped a pass to Diamond in the slot where Diamond sent a backhand shot on Dekanich, but the Royals goaltender left a rebound that Doremus collected and swept around his left pad to clinch the series sweep for the Monarchs.
