Portland Winterhawks News Release

The Portland Winterhawks (21-19-2-0) scored four times in the third period to earn a 4-1 win over the visiting Regina Pats (19-19-3-3) Wednesday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

The Pats registered the lone goal of the first when WHL leading scorer Adam Brooks scored at 13:48 as they took a 1-0 lead into the second.

The two teams played a physical second period, but neither the Hawks nor Pats found the back of the net as the score remained 1-0 in favor of the Pats heading into the third.

The Hawks finally broke through 3:47 into the third when a shot from Dominic Turgeon went through Regina netminder Jordan Hollett's pads to even the game at 1-1. Minutes later Portland took their first lead of the game when a blast from the point from Keoni Texeira beat Hollett for a 2-1 advantage.

With 1:03 to go and Hollett on the bench for an extra attacker, Skyler McKenzie scored into the open net to make it 3-1, then added another empty netter with 23 seconds remaining to give Portland the 4-1 win.

Adin Hill earned the win in net with 34 saves on 35 shots.

The Hawks' next game will be Friday when they travel to Spokane to take on the Chiefs at 7 p.m. They'll return home to host the Saskatoon Blades Saturday at the Moda Center at 7 p.m.
