Erie SeaWolves News Release

The SeaWolves did everything right except getting out number 27 as they were walked off on by the Altoona Curve, 5-3, on Saturday night at People's Natural Gas Field.

Erie struck in the top of the first inning against Curve starter Angel Sanchez. Wynton Bernard led off with a walk and stole second. Corey Jones singled home Bernard with one out for a 1-0 lead. Jones came around to score on a Brendan Harris single for a 2-0 lead.

Altoona cut the lead in the half in the bottom of the first against Erie starter Warwick Saupold . Keon Broxton led off with a walk and moved to third on a Max Moroff single. Broxton scored on a Josh Bell groundout making it 2-1.

The Curve tied the game in the third. Broxton again walked and moved to second on a Moroff single. A double steal put the runners on second and third. Bell came through with a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Broxton, tying the game.

The SeaWolves regained the lead in the fourth. Harris led off with a walk, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and to third on a groundout. Harold Castro followed, laid down a squeeze bunt and on an errant throw, Harris scored making it 3-2.

The lead held until the bottom of the ninth inning. Ryan Robowski who tossed a scoreless eighth, got the first batter in the ninth and turned it over to Edgar De La Rosa. De La Rosa walked Gift Ngoepe and Broxton putting the winning run on base. Moroff nearly won the game with a deep drive to right that was caught at the wall by Jeff McVaney . The next batter, Bell, crushed a game-winning, two-out, three run home run, giving Altoona a 5-3 win.

Saupold took the no-decision allowing two runs on four hits with four walks and four strikeouts in five innings.

De La Rosa (0-1) allowed three runs on one hit with two walks and no strikeouts in 0.1 innings in the losing effort.
