Chesapeake Baysox News Release
Bowie, Md. - The Baysox beat the Senators in the second game of a three game set on Saturday night, 2-1, with help from a great game by Mike Yastrzemski. The left fielder lit up the field for the Baysox throughout the game, recording three hits with a triple and two runs scored.
The Baysox pitching staff also had a great night, with starter Elih Villanueva throwing seven one-run innings and picking up the win. Reliever Mychal Givens recorded his third save of the season, pitching the final two innings and striking out three batters. Givens has been one of the Baysox strongest relievers so far this season, now owning an ERA of 0.61 after eight games.
For the second night in a row, Bowie scored in the bottom of the first after Yastrzemski led off with a single, followed by a Glynn Davis walk and then another single from right fielder Garabez Rosa. With the bases loaded, first basemen Sean Halton grounded into a double play, but Yastrzemski scored on the play to give the Baysox a 1-0 lead.
Harrisburg didn't back down and scored a run to tie the game in the third inning. With one out, first basemen Shawn Pleffner and left fielder Caleb Ramsey hit back-to-back singles leaving Pleffner on third. Senators second basemen Tony Renda grounded into a fielder's choice that scored Pleffner and tied the game 1-1.
The Baysox scored what would be the winning run in the fifth inning thanks to a two-out triple from Yastrzemski. Davis knocked Yastrzemski in with a single to right-center field to give the Baysox the decisive 2-1 lead.
