New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats dropped a tight 2-1 game for the second consecutive day, falling at the hands of the Binghamton Mets in front of 1,642 fans at NYSEG Stadium.
The Fisher Cats (12-11) failed to solve their road woes, dropping to 1-8 away from Northeast Delta Dental Stadium despite a strong outing from starting pitcher Taylor Cole (L, 0-3). New Hampshire has now suffered five one-run losses on the road in 2015. The win was the sixth straight for the B-Mets (14-8), who took advantage of a few timely hits to zip past the visitors.
After a four-inning scoreless stretch to start the game, New Hampshire broke the deadlock in the top of the fifth against Binghamton starter Luis Cessa (W, 2-1). Shane Opitz led off the inning with a single to right, and moved to second on a one-out base hit from Jon Berti. Dwight Smith, Jr. came through with an RBI single of his own, plating Opitz and giving New Hampshire the 1-0 edge.
The lead would prove short-lived, however. Binghamton got to Cole in the bottom of the inning, as a one-out single from Xorge Carrillo was followed by a double by Gavin Cecchini, putting runners at second and third. Eudy Piña fanned for the second out, but Jared King laced a single to center to score the runners and put Binghamton in front 2-1. New Hampshire put the leadoff man aboard in the ninth inning, but couldn't bring across the tying run.
The Fisher Cats will try to avoid a sweep Sunday afternoon, as they face the Mets again at 1:05 P.M. at NYSEG Stadium. RHP Michael Lee (0-1, 4.56) gets the ball for New Hampshire against Binghamton righty Michael Fulmer (0-0, -). Coverage with Ben Gellman begins at 12:45 p.m. on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and online at www.nhfishercats.com.
The Fisher Cats return to Northeast Delta Dental Stadium on Friday, May 8 to play Trenton. An Atlas Fireworks Show will follow the 6:35 p.m. contest. Tickets are available by visiting www.nhfishercats.com., stopping by the Fisher Cats ticket office, or by calling (603) 641-2005.
