South Carolina Stingrays News Release

North Charleston, S.C. - The most famous, prized and oldest trophy in sports, the Stanley Cup, visits the South Carolina Stingrays for the first time in 14 years on Saturday, March 29, the team announced today.

Standing 36 inches tall and weighing 35 pounds, the Stanley Cup celebrates 121 years of hockey history this season. Since 1893, the trophy has been symbolic of professional hockey supremacy and has traveled around the world. Only one former Stingray has their name engraved on the Stanley Cup, Rich Peverley. Peverley skated with the Stingrays during 2004-05 season and played a crucial role in helping the team's National Hockey League (NHL) affiliate, the Boston Bruins, capture the championship in 2011. The Stanley Cup will be on display at the North Charleston Coliseum starting at 3:00 p.m. for Stingrays season ticket holders and 4:00 p.m. for the public and will be present through Saturday night's game between the Stingrays and Ft. Wayne Komets. Fans will enter the Coliseum through the handicap entrance under the Montague Terrace and must have a ticket to Saturday's game. All tickets will be scanned upon entry.

Fans may touch and hug The Cup, but some privileges are reserved for the winners such as drinking out of it, hoisting it and picking it up. The Hockey Hall of Fame and the Stingrays ask to please respect the Cup, its history and what it represents.

Due to anticipated long lines, personal photos (cameras, cell phones, etc.) will be extremely limited and a professional photographer will be on hand. After viewing, fans may exit the Coliseum down the West ramps or reenter the line for additional viewings.

The Stingrays continue a five-game homestand on Friday, March 28 on Family Four Pack Friday against the Ft. Wayne Komets at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum! Grab four tickets, four hotdogs, four sodas and large popcorn for $55 at the Coliseum Box Office! College and military tickets are $5 at the Box Office with ID!
