Utah Grizzlies News Release
Loveland, Colorado - The Colorado Eagles (31-21-7-4) broke a scoreless third period tie and added an empty-netter with just under six seconds left to beat Utah (33-22-3-5) 2-0 in game one of a three game series at Budweiser Events Center Wednesday night.
The loss ends the Grizzlies four-game winning streak and a six-game winning streak against Colorado overall. The Eagles pull within a half game of Utah for the third spot in the Western Conference with the win.
Grizzlies goaltender Igor Bobkov (16-7-2-2) stopped 29 of the 30 shots that he saw, including seven shots in the first seven minutes of the contest and two Colorado breakaways in the second period. It marked the third time in the last six games that Bobkov, the reigning ECHL Goaltender of the Week and February's Goaltender of the Month, has taken a shutout into the third period and ends a stretch for the Grizzlies of scoring four goals in six of their last ten contests.
Colorado's A.J. Hau hammered in a rebound with Colorado in transition 5:24 into the third period. The Grizzlies then came alive by hammering 12 shots on the Colorado net in the final 14 minutes of the game, but they weren't able to connect. Grizzlies Head Coach Tim Branham called for the extra-attacker with just over two minutes left in the game as the two teams skated four-on-four and the Grizzlies had several near misses.
